The short answer: move your contacts first, your email sending second, and your pages last. Run the old and new platforms side by side until your money pages are rebuilt and tested, then switch your links and domain in one go. Done in that order, your audience never notices a gap.
The fear I hear most is "I'll lose my list" or "I'll break something that's working." Both are avoidable. Here's the order we use with members every week.
1. Take inventory
Before you touch anything, list what you actually use: funnels, pages, email sequences, courses, products, automations. Then mark the things that make money. Most people find a third of what they've built is no longer in use, and you don't need to move it.
2. Move your contacts first
Export your contacts with their tags and segments, and import them into your new CRM before anything else moves. Your list is the asset. Once it's safe in the new home, everything else is rebuilding, not rescuing.
3. Set up email sending
Connect your domain and authenticate email sending so your messages land in inboxes. Rebuild your active sequences (welcome, nurture, post-purchase), then send one broadcast from the new platform to confirm everything works.
4. Rebuild your money pages
Funnels and pages are rebuilt rather than imported, which is usually faster than it sounds. Start from a template organized by decision (lead magnet, webinar, book-a-call, sales page, checkout) and drop in your copy. Rebuild your highest-earning funnel first, then the rest in order of revenue.
5. Move courses and members
Video lessons upload to native hosting, and the course structure is rebuilt in the new member area. Grant existing students access before you announce the move, and tell them what to expect: a new login and a new member area, with everything they already have.
6. Connect payments and switch over
Connect Stripe, PayPal or Square, recreate your products and checkouts, and run a test purchase. If you have active subscriptions, plan how they move before you switch, and we'll help you map it. Then update your links everywhere (bio, emails, ads) and point your domain at the new site.
Run both platforms side by side until the new one is tested. Switch your links in one afternoon, not one page at a time.
What to tell your audience
Most of your audience won't notice the move at all if you do it in order. Your students will, so send them a short note before the switch: a new login is coming, everything they have moves with them, and here's who to contact with questions. Then send the access email the day you switch.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Moving pages before contacts. Your list comes first, always.
- Switching your domain before testing a purchase. Run one real test checkout on the new platform first.
- Rebuilding everything. Move what makes money first. Retire what you don't use.
- Forgetting the links. Update your bio, email signature, ads and old emails' main links on switch-over day.
You don't have to do it alone
Move to Firestarter is included with every plan: your onboarding walks you through the platform, and live tech hours walk you through each step of the move. If you'd rather hand it off, White Glove Setup ($197, one-time) has our team connect your domain, email, calendar, payments and social accounts and import your contacts.
